Fortune with a Joke.

Reading a Fortune cookie is always full of fun and laughter with a few friends after a meal at the Chinese Restaurant. I always noticed people or families were always enjoyed the Fortune Cookie's part . I did not realized it will be much more fun if one of them put a joke on it.
Today, me and a few business associates decided to go eat at a Chinese Restaurnt after our business meeting. Although it was a Buffet Restaurant we did not want buffet but ask the owner, a good friend to cook us something different. He cooked us
Braised Bass fish with soy sauce, Stirfried Spicy Clam, Braised Roast Duck and French Beans with pork slices. We really enjoyed our lunch.
Then it was Fortune Cookies time. Everyone start reading and Anita, the comical one started reading by adding the word "On Bed " to everyone's Fortunes. Everyone really had a good laugh. So this is how it goes

" You will travel far and wide for both pleasure and business, "on bed"

" You love life very much "on bed"

" Handsome is that handsome does "on bed"

" The philosophy of one century is the common sense of the next "on bed"

What to do with your fortune's paper?

The weather is turning cool over here these few days. With this kind of weather, I have been restless and sleepy all the time.Feel like going in to hibenation. I know I have not been posting last few days. I was wondering what do people do with thier fortune cookies paper. Some will eat up their cookies and leave the paper on the table after their meals, some will keep them in their purse, to remind them of their good fortunes from time to times. There are some who would save them , under their pillow or in the safe. Since I have been reading a lot , I have been saving them in a small wine glass. Maybe I can sell them on ebay one day. What would you do with yours?

Today I have a few fortunes

" Discontent is the first step in the progress of a man or a nation"

'You have a reputation for being straight forward and honest"

"You have a potential urge and the ablility for accomplishment."

"You are broad minded and socially active"

"Don't let friends impose on you, work calmly and silently"

"You have an iron will, which helps you suceed in everything"

"You have much skill in expressing yourself to be effective."

The job as a Cookie Master.

Have you been enjoying your fortune cookies'sayings? Do you know who writes all these messages and what it takes to be a Cookie Master?
As a vice-president at Wonton Food, Inc., in Long Island City, Donald Lau manages the company’s accounts payable and receivable, negotiates with insurers, and, somewhat incidentally, composes the fortunes that go inside the fortune cookies, of which Wonton is the world’s largest manufacturer. Each day, Wonton’s factory churns out four million Golden Bowl-brand cookies, which are sold to several hundred venders, who, in turn, sell them to most of the forty thousand Chinese restaurants across the country. Wonton’s primacy in the industry and, for that matter, in the gambler’s imagination is such that when, in March, five of six lucky numbers printed on a fortune happened to coincide with the winning picks for the Powerball lottery, a hundred and ten people, instead of the usual handful, came forward to claim prizes of around a hundred thousand dollars. Lottery officials suspected a scam until they traced the sequence to a fortune printed with the digits “22-28-32-33-39-40” and Donald Lau’s prediction: “All the preparation you’ve done will finally be paying off.”

“We’ve had winners before, but never this many,” Lau said the other day, in his East Williamsburg office, which is furnished with stacks of financial reports and “A Dictionary of American Proverbs.” “A computer picks the numbers, not me. If only a computer could also write the fortunes.” Lau never expected to become a fortune-cookie writer. After graduating from Columbia with degrees in engineering and business, he joined Bank of America, then ran a company that exported logs from the Pacific Northwest to China. In the early eighties, he was hired by a Chinatown noodle manufacturer, which eventually expanded into fortune cookies. The firm bought the Long Island City plant, and it soon became apparent that its antiquated catalogue of fortunes would have to be updated. (“Find someone as gay as you are,” one leftover from the nineteen-forties read.) “We knew we needed to add new sayings,” Lau said. “I was chosen because my English was the best of the group, not because I’m a poet.”

At first, the writing came easily. Finding inspiration in sources ranging from the I Ching to the Post, Lau cranked out three or four maxims a day, between scrutinizing spreadsheets and monitoring the company’s inventory of chow mein. “I’d be on the subway and look up at the signs and think, Hey, that would make a great fortune,” he said. (One such adage: “Beware of odors from unfamiliar sources.”) “I’d keep a small notebook and jot down whatever came to me. I don’t think I ever sat in front of the computer and said, ‘I am going to write ten fortunes right now.’ It has to come naturally.”

Love, riches, power: there is a limited range of experience that can be expressed in one sentence, and, about eleven years into his tenure, Lau began to run out of ideas. He leaned increasingly on traditional Chinese sayings, which offer insight (along the lines of “True gold fears no fire”) but not foresight (“Your income will increase”), and in 1995 he gave up altogether. “I’ve written thousands of fortunes, but the inspiration is gone,” Lau said. “Have you heard of writer’s block? That is what happened to me.”

These days, he cycles selections from his vast oeuvre in and out of circulation. He is worried that readers will notice that the cookies are in reruns, which might result in Wonton’s losing its edge on the competition. (This is unlikely. Although there are about forty fortune-cookie companies in the United States, few have Wonton’s manufacturing capabilities.) So Lau has decided to bring in new blood. The company will soon advertise for a new fortune writer, and Lau will make the transition to editor. “Maybe when I retire I’ll write again—perhaps a book about writing fortunes,” he said. Returning to form, he summarized the thrust of the book with two simple axioms. “Don’t have too complicated a mind,” he said. “Think in ten-word sentences.”

Origin of The Fortune Cookies.

Where did the Fortune Cookie originate from? United States of America or China? What is a Fortune Cookie? Why is it so popular in America?
Have you ever asked yourself these questions? What is it with the Fortune Cookie?

The Fortune Cookie is a delicate, crisp cookie made from flour, sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk which is baked around a fortune, a piece of paper with words of faux wisdom or vague prophecy. Unique to the United States and Canada, it is usually served with Chinese food as a dessert. The message inside may also include a list of lucky numbers (used by some as lottery numbers) and a Chinese phrase with translation. Despite conventional wisdom, they were actually invented in California.

San Francisco and Los Angeles both lay claim to the origin of the fortune cookie. Makoto Hagiwara of Golden Gate Park's Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco is said to have invented the cookie in 1909,[1] while David Jung, founder of the Hong Kong Noodle Company in Los Angeles, is said to have invented them in 1918.[2]

San Francisco's Court of Historical Review ruled in 1983 in favor of San Francisco. Although the court was presided over by a Federal judge, the court itself has been criticized as being less than serious and biased in favor of San Francisco. Its conclusions, therefore, might not be the final word on the subject.[2]

The cookies are generally called by the English term fortune cookies, even by Chinese Americans, as there is no standard Chinese term for them. In the Chinese language, however, fortune cookie has been translated variously as 幸运签饼, 签语饼, 幸运饼, 幸运签语饼, 幸运甜饼, 幸福饼干, 幸运饼干, 幸运饼, 幸运籤语饼, 籤语饼, or 占卜饼.

The non-Chinese origin of the fortune cookie is humorously illustrated in Amy Tan's 1989 novel The Joy Luck Club, in which a pair of Chinese immigrant women find jobs at a fortune cookie factory in America. They are amused by the unfamiliar concept of a fortune cookie but, after several hilarious attempts at translating the fortunes into Chinese, come to the conclusion that the cookies contain not wisdom, but "bad instruction."

Although many people do not take the message in a fortune cookie as a serious oracular device, many of them consider it part of the game that the entire cookie must be consumed in order for the fortune to come true.[6] Variations on this idea include not eating the cookie if a fortune seems unlucky, or the idea that the entire cookie must be eaten before the fortune is read. Or conversely, the fortune must be read before any of the cookie is eaten. Some people believe the fortune will not come true if it is read aloud. Additionally, the fortune is said to come true if one uses "your lucky numbers" on the back of the fortune to play, and win, a game of Krypto.

The new version of some fortune cookies comes up with Learning Chinese . A Chinese phrase with translation and pronunciation is typed on it.
Have any one ever think about inserting some bad fortune instead of good fortune, and see what will be the results,..Ha ha,joke!!!

Today Fortune Cookie says:"You will travel far and wide, both pleasure and business"

This is great, my passion to travel, and see the world and I can blog about my travelling , the people I meet and the new culture I can learn from.

"Learn Chinese " Wo I Ni" Say this to your love ones "I Love You'

Columbus Top 10 Restaurant.

Today , we have dinner at One of Columbus's Top Ten Restaurant. We dined at Chef Lee Chinese Restaurant,One of the best restaurant voted by Restaurant Magazine and endorsed by Martin Yan.
Indeed this is one of the best decorated Chinese Restaurant, with antique Chinese decoration, a pond with lots of Koi Fish and with beautiful Chinese Music background. You feel like you are in China Town. Also known as Peking Restaurant.
We asked the waiter for some special oriental dishes rather than the typical American Chinese Menu.He recommended Steamed Fish, Ma Po Tofu(Bean curd cooked with
minced port, onions on a spicy sauce) Stir fried Egg Plant with Garlic Sauce and Stir fried Napa with Pork.
We waited a little long because all the dishes were specially prepared. They came out hot and fresh especially the fish.Every dish tasted well seasoned , perfect. Service was excellent. It is worth it.I recommend Chef Lee's if you come to Columbus,Georgia.
Located on Bradley Park Drive.

Today Fortune Cookie : "Someone is speaking well of you"
"You will bring happiness to everyone"

Florida's Fortune cookies.

Today we have to drive 3 hours to Tallahassee, Florida. It is a long drive with beautiful weather. This is quite a big city, where Florida States University is located.
We did a little work and by lunch time , we were hungry so we drove around to find a good restaurant to eat. Saw The China Delight. An average Chinese restaurant. Not too busy, just a few tables of customers. The restaurant is modestly decorated. There is no buffet,we have to order from the lunch menu.About 16 items from the menu.

We ordered Chicken with Broccoli and Chicken Lo Mein. It came served with Fried rice,Eggroll and Hot and Sour Soup. The soup was delicious. We asked for hot pepper sauce, it was really spicy. Later, we ask for duck sauce for our eggroll but the waiter bought us some red red sweet and sour sauce. Service *** Food***
China Delight is located on 220,West Tennessee Street,Tallahassee, Fl 32301.
Fortune Cookies says: "You will bring sunshine into some one's life."

Busy Day Cookie

Today I really had a busy day. Got up at 6.30 am . I drove to the Flea Market at Victory Drive to sell some of my stuff. Instead trying to get rid of most of my junks, I bought more stuff to sell, got some walking canes and more costume jewelries.
I already reserved my booth , so when I reached, I just have to set up .Took me 30 minutes to set up, I really do not have a lot of stuff like the other folks. My first customer bought 3 walking canes, bargained till five dollars(I asked for 6). but I was glad to make the first sale. Later, through out the day I was able to sell some Tee-shirt and a table saw my husband asked me to sell. Sold for $40.00. Only sold a couple of necklaces and bracelets. Sold a little more stuff and I decided to call it a day after 2.30 pm. One vendor told me, to stay till 5 as more people will come.
On the way home I stopped by to get some grocery at Rainbow Food, They have fresh meat at lower price.
Went home took a nap, and at 8.30 went to a friend birthday party, ate a lot of home cooked meals, and reached home at 1.30 am. This was a long and busy day for me.
So I only have one cookie to read.
The Cookie says "Time is the Wisest Counselor"
Is this true? To me Time is really precious, Sometime it is not enough, If I have more time , I would want to do more things and get more accomplished. But we cannot go back in time.So we better make use of the time we have, get more things done, accomplished more goals, and spend more time with our families and friends.Time flies away fast and we may never catch it again.

Little Ceasars-Hot And Ready Pizza

Yesterday, I was too lazy to cook and I do not want to eat out.I decided to pick up a pizza for my youngest son, Joel.I went to the Drive-Thru and Little Caesar's at Buena Vista Road. My son loves the pizza here.Just ask the cashier at the Drive thru," I need a Hot and Ready Pizza"It cost $4.99 plus tax($5.30) and you will get a large 15" round pizza covered pepperoni and cheese, just out of the oven. Comes with a cup of mazzollera sauce.Even, when you reach home , it is still hot.
And my son can eat the whole pizza, for lunch and dinner. It is a very good deal, for less than $6.00. Next time, you have a party or having some guests over, get you some
Hot and Ready Pizza. It don't come with any fortune cookies but you can get some Crazy Bread for 99 cents.
Today Fortune Cookie Says: "Your fate is in no one else buy you, no other hands but yours."
A lot of people believe that their lives are fated. They blamed everything on fate.Especially the Orientals, they believe in fate. But ,you can change your fate, you can always work for the better. If you don't work, fate can never help you, you have to help yourself, no one ,even your best friend can help you, if you do not do anything to help yourself.

Today Chinese word- Pe Che How =Good Temper.
